Oregon Coast Coffee

OregonCoastCoffee.com

What was needed:
The client, Justin Johnson, came to us needing an e-Commerce site to sell product for his family’s coffee company. It had to be sleek, simple and beautiful to match their logo and brand packaging but above all, easy for their customers to navigate and make their shopping selections.

What we did:
Justin was a big fan of the front page layout on Graph Paper Press’s f8 theme, but it didn’t have many features required for an e-Commerce site to be functional and effective. So, we took some design inspiration and added extra customization and a great e-Commerce plugin to another theme, and everything pulled together nicely. Justin’s added experience with technology allowed him to do some of the grunt work himself, providing a great example for how superfreako designs can customize packages for individual strengths and deliver great sites at almost any budget.

What was needed:
This is obviously our own site for our production company, but even so we treated it like we would any other client. Our needs were specific and needed to be addressed just like any other. They were:

  • a volume of new and interesting projects that we wanted to showcase in an interesting way – something that might approximate flash, but without any of the SEO and Apple product downsides.
  • a variety of capabilities and types of work we can do – each highlighted in with brevity and professionalism
  • the ability to add new projects as they’re completed and have them seamlessly fold into the design of the rest of the site.

What we did:
Sometimes with more complex or flashy needs, a free theme just won’t provide what’s needed. So amongst the wonderful Woo Themes we found one called BizNizz that had a very cool looking javascript-based slideshow that any Apple product would be able to view. We spent the extra cash to get the premium theme and had all the excellent options with which all Woo Themes come out of the box. From there all we really needed to do was write all the copy, use all the bells and whistles which come with BizNizz – such as the Portfolio, Slides and Mini-Features – and then tweaked all the colors and some of the spacing and we were good to go.

What was needed:
Before we even got started on this re-design, the client already had a couple things going for them:

  • They had sizable monthly following, upon whom they could rely for all sorts of things, such as content, information – not to mention a ready audience.
  • The version of their site that was current at the time also had a decent amount of material already on it – bios and photos of members as well as a number of different helpful articles for independent filmmakers.

The problem was that the design was a bit clunky and dated. It wasn’t very easy to find what you wanted and going from page to page required more movement than was necessary. The client recognized their human assets and wanted to capitalize on them and give their members the opportunity to post, create and easily access material to make their lives and careers as independent filmmakers easier.

What we did:
This took a little more time and energy than what we usually do. It obviously had to be a WordPress site because of all the functionality it required, but specifically how would it need to be set up? That was the main question. We needed to access the substantial human assets that the client had in the smoothest way possible – in a way that would make updates simple and painless and allow for a number of different writers, but it also needed to maintain a certain quality and standard.

After meeting with the client a few more times, it was decided that what we were going for was the Independent Filmmakers’ Huffington Post. We had the idea of making it a primarily post-driven piece that had a few pages that the client could then use to collect the most useful resources into more comprehensive collections. So we figured out the different categories that the client would want to cover and created not just collections of Articles – for more current and topical pieces that the client and all of their members could post -, but also have separate Resources pages that were more comprehensive and complete.

When the new site was launched, it’s visits hit an all-time high and have since maintained and average hits-per-day about four times the old design’s average.

BeingJamieBaker.com

BeingJamieBaker.com

What was needed:
The client asked for a very simple site to promote a book for young adults, “Being Jamie Baker“. They needed a friendly, easy-to-navigate design without any bells and whistles that allowed the user to get interested in the book (including an excerpt, synopsis, and cool trailer they created for it), find out where out to purchase, and learn more about the author.

What we did:
We took the colors and general feel from the book itself – the target audience of which is young women in their early to mid-teens – pink, burgundy and white. The newsfeed made a WordPress theme the best choice, but we knew we’d need to find a theme without a lot of fancy effects to keep it as simple as the client wanted.

The final product was this – simple, sleek and very easy to update.

What was needed:
This client came to us to redesign his older and somewhat outdated site. He is a DJ and a Music Supervisor who plays gigs, makes videos and licenses music for commercials, TV, film and live events. He wanted to have music players built into the site that would allow him to give certain clients rights to download music files, but allow other users only to listen to them without the ability to download. He also wanted to promote events, feature his videos, allow users to download mixes – and all within a layout that is modern, easy on the eye and simple to navigate.

What we did:
To accommodate both his needs AND his budget, we had the client collect all of the assets that he wanted on the site – images, specific copy for pages, music files, etc. – while we tested out several themes, music players and plugins that would satisfy his needs.

The package we finally assembled included a music player that did not allow downloading, but then included a password protected page with downloadable links to all the licensable music so that our client could give the password to his potential clients. He can even change the password whenever he feels it’s necessary. We also created post category buttons on the navigation bar for events and videos which auto-populate with all the most recent posts that the client gives those particular categories.

Over-all, we provided an economical, full-featured site that the client is proud of and for which he’s apparently been getting a ton of excellent feedback.

ho-jung.com

Ho-Jung.com

What was needed:
This client came to us needing a site that would showcase her career as a professional actress, be easy to navigate for filmmakers interested in casting, and reflect elements of her personality for fans of her work.

What we did:
In a world of overly-flashy, complicated sites for people in the film industry, Ho-Jung was looking for something very minimalist. Focused almost entirely in black and white with an accent or two of color, she wanted her site to be all about simplicity and quality content.

We put ourselves in the heads of casting directors and thought about what they would need to find most quickly- headshots, a reel and interesting clips of her work. We also worked with her on the resume page- providing certain resume entries to be clickable, popping open a sleek video player with embedded video code that features that particular clip, in a high resolution that still loads quickly.
