What was needed:
This client needed something completely different. He’s a Creative Director in Advertising, but also wanted to show off his deep and tested skills at the down and dirty work of an Advertising Art Director. He didn’t want a blog. He didn’t want an RSS feed. He didn’t want to link the site to his Facebook page or Twitter feed or LinkedIn account or YouTube channel. He just wanted to show a small, hand-picked collection of his work and wanted the format to look as original and fresh as the pieces themselves. He also wanted the site to show his resume, provide a way to contact him directly and to display a small collection of sketches he did during a trip through Russia he took with his wife in 2000.

What we did:
The very sparse and particular needs of this client meant that a normal blog site site with familiar elements and structure was out of the question, so WordPress was just not an option. He also himself wanted to be as much a part of the design process as possible – and his decades as a designer made it obvious that we wouldn’t want to turn that down.

The client ended up creating pdfs and other sketches to show exactly what he wanted and we built the back end from scratch. In essence what we did was bring to life and make interactive the sketches that he designed – he drew the blueprints and we built the building. So this is one of very few non-Wordpress sites that we’ve created and took more time and cost more money, but those are the prices you sometimes have to pay for originality.
